New Delhi: On the occasion of World Environment Day 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended an event on ‘Save Soil Movement’ on Sunday (June 5, 2022) and said that India’s forest cover has increased by more than 20,000 sq km in the last eight years. Sharing the stage with Sadguru, the founder of Isha Foundation, PM Modi said that today India has achieved 10% ethanol blend in petrol five months ahead of its target.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted that India’s efforts to protect the environment are multidimensional, yet its role in climate change is “negligible”.

“Earlier, our farmers were not aware of soil health. To overcome this problem, a massive campaign was launched in the country to issue soil health cards to farmers. In this year’s budget, we have announced natural farming along the Ganges river corridor. PM Modi said.

“The biodiversity and wildlife policies that India is pursuing today have also led to a record increase in the number of wildlife,” he added.

The Save Soil Movement is a global movement to raise awareness about the deteriorating health of the soil and to bring about a conscious response to improve it. The movement was started in March 2022 by Sadguru, who embarked on a 100-day motorcycle journey through 27 countries.

Days later, it will also launch the global initiative ‘Lifestyle for Environment’ on Sunday (June 5, 2022). Prime Minister Modi will also deliver the keynote address during the video conferencing program which will start at 6 pm.

The Prime Minister’s Office said that the launch would launch the ‘Life Global Call for Papers’, which would invite ideas and suggestions from academics, universities and research institutes to inspire and persuade individuals, communities and organizations around the world to adopt environmentally conscious lifestyles.
